settling in

Well the folks left today. It was fun hanging out with them. Fishing and eating on the beach. Was awesome that they brought rudy (our dog) along. We were starting to miss him. Sydney sure got excited to see him. But sadly they had to leave. Sooner or later the holiday must end and everybody needs to get back to reality again. We are adjusting quite well to our second home. While I started my first day of logging here(i got a job..a real one with paychecks). Jana had a lot of fun. All alone with kids all day at the cabin. Nudity seems to be the common element for the day. From bathing to eating to showering on the beach. The wildlife has also moved back in now that Rudy is gone. Mice are rampant..squirrels and crows chatter non stop. Another issue we have to adjust to is Internet availability. The beach is the best place for a strong signal. That's ok for now..but not if it is raining. The new kitchen shelves definitely make it easier to deal with life in the cabin. Now to build a table and benches.

moved in

Well we made it too the cabin. Two heaping loads in the skiff. And Jana had to run back to the suite to pick up a few things. But by lunch time we had everything scattered about "ons tweede huis". Going to take a few days to get everything set up. That's half the fun. Dad and I went fishing for the afternoon. Caught too small spring salmon. I finally got a salmon worth keeping. I finally got the laptop dug out at 10 pm. The only place I can find a good connection is on the beach. This is a pretty sweet spot to send out a posting. But the sun has set and the bugs are eating me alive. Sorry no pics either. In a day or two we should get this figured out. Now too see how cold are cabin gets tonight....
adios!!!

eagle day

Hot and Sunny today. Man it was like the caribbean..everyone snoozing on the beach in the sun shine. I don't care at all. All I want is a salmon..dad caught another one..not me. Ok I caught a salmon but it was too small and released before we thought of a picture. Me and dad had fun fishing in the morning. Caught lots of fish..only one keeper salmon though. Watched some interesting eagle behaviour also. As we trolled around a point close to shore we spotted an eagle swimming. It looked very odd..paddling with it's wings..as It got to shore it hopped up on a log..with a nice looking salmon clutched in its talons. Pretty cool to watch it drag the fish up the rocks. I wish I had a better camera..our zoom is pretty pathetic...it would have made some cool shots. Anyways...Liam was excited to see his first salmon ...and was quite interested in the cleaning part. We are all looking forward too tomorrow..we are leaving this apartment and moving into the cabin!!!!!!!!! Hopefully it goes well..we are pretty excited about sleeping under our own roof. There is still alot to finish..........but who cares with nice sunny weather like this!!!!!

early morning crabbing

Liam is up and wide awake at 5:45. At least the morning weather is nice and calm....with the sun starting to come up. So we sneak off to reset the crab traps. Reset means you pull up two big traps and empty them. One trap had the come open..so there was no crabs. The other was full.. (16). So then empty the trap on to the floor of the skiff. "Liam keep your feet up". Now re-bait the traps..(old salmon head....some leftover beef bits). Double check that they are securely closed so hopefully they both will be full next time. Looks like a nice calm morning for some salmon fishing. We will see what happens the rest of the day. For the record Opa Seinen caught a 15 pound salmon yesterday all by himself. So now it is definetly my turn to catch one!!!!

another delivery

Well Opa and Oma are back. Glad too have them for a longer stay this time. They brought lots of food..enough for at least a week. Plus lots of new stuff for us. Our stove is here..the first brand new thing for our cabin. Until now everything has been re-used, recycled or salvaged. It looks like it is gonna be a great addition to the kitchen. We also got lots of "new to us" bedding (thanks laura) and clothes for sydney who is growing like a weed. Mom also brought all our mail..so much for avoiding all those bill collectors. Opa and Oma were so excited to be here they left at five am. And were here by lunch. They also brought new brake pads for our old pick-up....no more shuddering and squeeling to a stop. Gotta love Oona River

kids play while we work

So nice to have the cabin clean and kid friendly. The interior is along way to being finished. But at least we can let the kids climb everywhere and play while we finish and clean this or that. The kids love being around us while we work. Liam does very well at playing alongside..but not in the way. Sydney has a tendancy too try and crawl or grab every sharp and dangerous tool. But you just have to get in the habit of putting the saws up high..and not stepping on her.
Today we were busy trying to set up our propane fridge. Had to cut a hole in the wall. So there is access to light the pilot light. Trying to figure out the best way to seal it off and make sure it is vented properly. Jana was having fun setting up the kitcken...We made two drawers...hooks for the pots and set the drain up. (a bucket under the sink) but it worked good enough to do dishes in.

moving in

Well we got a sink in today..means we can move in anytime now. Of course the drain system for the sink could use a little fine tuning. But things are coming together. Today was a stormy day..lots of wind..but our cabin was snug and warm..the kids had lots of fun playing while we puttered. Managed too sweet talk Ben out of some clear plastic roofing so I can finish our little add-on deck. The deck is turning into this cute little work spot for me. Now I can stay out of the kitchen. Liam is getting better and better at finding crabs. One was found with all eggs under it..plus an albino one. He packs them up too the cabin to play with..and then loses them inside somewhere...oh well..no smell yet. He did forgot his gumboots on the beach also..then the tide came in..boots were lost...but they were found later rolling in the waves.
