barge day #2

Another barge today. They need a rising-almost high tide to deliver. So that meant they would arrive at about 1pm. Perfect..that means that most people can work the morning and gather for the big event in the afternoon. I spent the morning..packing in more lumber...finished framing another window...watered jana's "need to be planted" raspberries plants. Even though I am packing loads of lumber and gear..everyday to the cabin...It is not always a given that I am the one most deserving a back rub at the end of the day. Sydney is getting bigger all the time. This morning Jana spent over two hours lugging her around the beach with liam..bending over picking pretty shells and rocks. Sydney is getting to the stage where she arches and throws her weight around..which adds to the workout. No pain no gain.

After a hurried lunch it is off to the barge landing. There was 20 people on hand to watch the barge arrive. Now it isn't easy to direct a very heavy barge in windy conditions to small landing ramp. Now picture the whole town lounging about watch you spend 30 minutes ...going in circles...going back and forth...trying to get lined up right. We were the ultimate peanut gallery. But in the tugboats defence the barge was very heavy this time...it was packed. 4 fuel trucks, 3 pickups, 2 flat deck trucks, forklift, rubber tired log loader and forwarder (bought in houston from Kenworth), plus randomly tucked in corners was three peoples orders from Home Hardware. Liam and I got to drive on of the flatdecks..through town..to the mill to be off loaded...he loved it.I was glad to find our lumber order arrived correctly. We got 1/4" plywood to finish our loft floor, concrete to finish the fireplace and more nails. I took it all over in the skiff.....think I should know better. When you take a load over on a dropping tide..it is always a race to keep the boat from getting beached. Plus it was blowing SW this afternoon..which means the boat is rocking and constantly trying to get hung-up. But we got it.
The next step was borrowing Mark's 10foot brake. (this is a machine that is used to bend metal) I used it to make drip flashings for under our windows. It worked perfect..he knew exactly what was needed..Tomorrow we can go put them on.
