three windows

Well..lots of back and forth today. Three trips to the cabin. Built a cute little swinging gate for upstairs. So sydney doesn't fall down. Was given three windows that fit the dormer. But I had to build the frames and flashing. Used Mark's metal brake to bend the flashing just right. Used Ben's table saw to cut all the window framing pieces. Sure is nice to have everyone helping here. Ken and Beth brought a few essential groceries for us today also. So we can have a big lunch waiting for the Wimbush clan when they arrive. After supper all four of us trooped over to the cabin for an hours work. Pouring rain with wind blowing straight in our beach and faces. Everyone is smiling though ..so nice to have the loft done and clean..the kids can play and crawl around. And let there parents work. Sorry forgot camera..tomorrow we will have photo's of the finished dormer window. We did put the rock wall up. I managed to break one rock off..luckily it is on the bottom and will be easily repaired when we put the bottom piece on. Hopefully tomorrow we can get the rest of it in place.

weather man wrong

well they called for rain today..nothing but rain. They were wrong nice and sunny. The kinda of day where you fall asleep on the sand..while your kids are playing in the driftwood and eating rocks and your wife is painting the cabin floor. All in all a good day. We stood the rock up..it looks good..didn't fall apart anyways. See when we screw it to the wall tomorrow. All so managed to get the great big front window put in. A good test of strength (our muscles,our marriage and our scaffolding) Got some railing built on the stairs..trying to figure out what to do for a gate at the top. Ben gave me some hinges so I can make a little gate tomorrow. Jana finished painting the floor. I scrounged a bunch of windows that should finish the dormer..so hopefully tomorrow we can get it closed up. It is going to be nice to have the big open loft for the kids to play in while we work downstairs. We are getting very excited for the hols and wimbushes visits. Mostly because they are bringing groceries....cupboards are getting kind of bear. It is kind of weird..rationing things. Jana is forever looking for recipes without eggs. Liam has quit asking for apples..now he asks for applesauce..today we got excited to find a piece of pepper hidden in leftover salad (sydney loves peppers). I kinda of like it..because we have lots of beef...mmm so no problem there. Except I miss milk...when you get down to your last litre..It gets saved for the kids. oh well lots of water here. Jana is busy mowing the lawn so Oona River will be all spiffed up for the may long weekend. Did see some very blooming pretty rhododendron today..and wild roses are coming. Amazing what one hot day does.

another end done

Just about all done work from a ladder. Got the other gable side done. Feels good to finish another small piece of the project. The siding sure goes on nice. I wish I had enough to finish the whole cabin.They can make it locally but..everyone is too busy with logging. Ben had enough extra pieces for me to finish this bit..but I would like more.

It's a little tricky putting the windows in up there by yourself. But you can do it. Sure glad I didn't let Jana convince me too put the big 5 footer up there. I still need some windows for the dormer part...not sure what to do yet. Also got the rest of the plywood screwed down on the loft floor. Now Jana can paint it. All we got is the same colour paint as the windows..so I guess that's the colour of the floor. We can buy lots of rugs to cover it.

Jana has made tortilla's for dinner and fresh halibut............mmmmm.

evening shift

Since my batteries only last a few hours. I figured I better go do some extra work this evening. Walked over....Started on the back upstairs wall. Mostly I wanted to get some photo's of the new windows for uncle Eric!!.

the rock fireplace

So we started the day off with a boat ride. It is so nice and calm in the morning. At 7:30 am we had a loaded skiff and were put put'n around. We took plants..two pails of sand...and lunch. The sand was for the fireplace. We set the rocks in place today. First we are doing the back wall. Once they dry in a few days we will set them in place and then do the floor. The rocks from pebble beach sure are fun too work with. The kids co-operated and slept for two hours after lunch so Jana was able to have lots of fun placing them. I spent most of the day mixing cement for jana and finishing the loft floor. Now I can frame the back wall. When we came back..Liam and Dad used the skiff to tow some lumber too the dock ...while Jana made dinner. 5 more sleeps till ava and jesse come!!!

sunday walk

just a few photo's from our walk to the dock tonight. Weather was awesome today. Sunny and calm. Liam caught a few fish and Jana answered a random wrong number phone call to the warf phone.

Well we are starting to get in a working groove. The whole family was out the door at 7:03 this morning. Backpacks on...rain gear on...cooler packed...ready for a work day...Drive to trail head...hike through the rainy woods...start the fire in dad's cabin...dump the compost....empty the backpack...find the important makita batteries... jana and the kids go beach combing..dad starts framing....kids come back tired and cold....hot chocolate time....Sydney goes down for nap...Liam helps mom sweep loft.....1/4 plywood gets laid down......fog gets thicker..keeps raining....dad finishes framing windows...Sydney wakes up....Jana plays with kids....dad steps on big slug.....dad starts putting on lumber wrap..lunch time...vegetable soup and sandwiches... Sydney goes for nap..Liam goes to the bathroom...Liam naps...Jana accidentally naps with Liam....dad finishes lumber wrap...dad moves windows in....Jana does final coat of paint on windows....dad plays with Sydney...mom keeps painting...dad does dishes...mom keeps painting....dad plays with sydney....Liam wakes up....mom finishes painting windows....mom plants raspberries...mom plants chives....everyone hikes out in the rain.....meet ben and shannon on the road out...everyone goes to there own homes to get ready for the community pizza dinner tonight!!
